Angelina Jolie Could Replace Charlize Theron in `The Tourist`
Spy thriller "The Tourist" could be Angelina Jolie`s next feature project. According to The Hollywood Reporter`s Risky Biz Blog, sources have claimed the 34-year-old is in negotiation to star after "Hancock" star Charlize Theron, who has long been attached, dropped out from this remake of Sophie Marceau-starring French film, "Anthony Zimmer".
Should the story is true, Jolie will fill in the shoes of an Interpol agent who manipulates an American tourist in an attempt to entrap her former lover who is an elusive criminal. The two-time Academy Award recipient won`t be the first one brought in to replace previously-attached actor though. Earlier, "Avatar" lead Sam Worthington has signed on to replace Tom Cruise who had been flirting with the project since 2008.
Beside reporting on Jolie`s possible casting news, Risky Biz Blog also mentioned that producers of "The Tourist" are looking to find a new director. Bharat Nalluri, the director of "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" who had been attached to direct, was out of the remake project as of last week. There are yet words confirming or denying all of the reports from either Spyglass Entertainment, Jolie and Theron`s reps or Nalluri.
"The Tourist" has Christopher McQuarrie, Julian Fellowes and Bill Wheeler as the writers of its script. Up until the news` date, the production is scheduled to begin in early 2010. Angelina Jolie, in the meantime, is fresh off CIA thriller "Salt", which will be released in U.S. theaters on July 23, 2010. She stars as Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and out to assassinate the president.
